John and June Pegler established ‘Peglers’ at home, in their front room, 21 years ago. They soon moved to a shop in Arundel to keep pace with rapid growth as people became aware of the revolutionary “scientific approach’ to outdoor gear.

They soon developed and took on their son Dave as a partner, opening up the climbing and mountaineering shop. This was followed with the addition of Dave’s childhood friend and climbing partner, Richard Knight as another partner in the business. This gave Peglers an excellent team to make what customers and suppliers have described as one of the best climbing shops in Europe.

Meanwhile, John and June looked into more boots and more shops. The end result? A store dedicated to the supply of hiking boots, a specialised fitting service and expert knowledge of each and every boot we sell. Customers regularly travel from all over the UK to be fitted by Peglers, one customer even made her son travel over from Bermuda for our expert advice and fitting.

More shops in Arundel ensued with cries of ‘you're taking over the town’ and now Peglers have 4 shops each specialising on their own aspects of the outdoors, covering everything from Cub Scouts going on camp to Ramblers and Travellers to Everest Summiteers.

Peglers actively encourage young people in the outdoors by supporting many Youth Organisations through sponsorship of events, hire gear, a secondhand service that helps to keep the costs to minimum. The staff and partners are actively involved in youth organisations such as Scouts, Guides, Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and Cadets.
